Take a globe & hold it in front of you. Place your finger at the very top (northernmost point) and move it down. Which direction are you going?
South, of course.
Keep going down until you reach the bottom of the globe. Now start going up the other side. Which way are you going now?
North.
If you keep doing this, you will switch directions (from going south, to going north) every time you reach the bottom or the top.
Now do it differently. Start in the middle of the United States and move your finger East. Go all the way around the world til you come back to where you started. Let me know when you start going West…..
Hmmm……..
You don’t!
Look at Psalm 103:12:
“As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”
So – how far is the east from the west?
Obviously, it can’t be measured. There is no point where east & west meet. When God removes sin from our lives, it is GONE. You couldn’t locate it if you tried!
Let’s look at something else….
The last part of Jeremiah 31:34 says: “For I will forgive their iniquity and never again remember their sin.”
But God has a perfect memory, right? 🤔
So, how can this be?
Is the Bible contradicting itself?
I learned this from a Sunday School lesson several months ago: this verse in Jeremiah basically says He doesn’t totally forget about our sin; he forgot that it was ours 🥺 The Apologetics Study Bible says it like this: to remember something means to take action in accordance with the memory. God will not allow His people’s past sins to influence His current and future relationship with them.
Whew! That is so good!
ALL of our sin was put on Jesus when He was crucified on the cross. So God no longer holds our sin against us! It is no longer on our account; our account has been Paid In Full 🙌
“He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. In him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13-14
